Important: COVID Update for Foothills Composite High School

November 30, 2020

An additional case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School further to the case that was previously shared on November 26, 2020.  As always, our thoughts remain with these individuals and their families, we wish them a safe and speedy recovery.

No additional students or staff have been identified as close contacts and we anticipate that no further exclusions within the school are required in connection with this additional case.  Public Health may still follow up with potentially affected individuals directly by email with mandatory self-isolation orders.

A school watch is declared by the Chief Medical Officer of Health when 5 or more cases are identified within a school setting.  This additional case means that our school will now be listed as Watch Status.

We remind families to continue monitoring for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the new Alberta Health Daily Checklist. If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal or myself with any questions you may have.  Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Chris Fuzessy, Superintendent of Schools
Vince Hunter, École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School Principal

To our Foothills Composite High School Community,

A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual who was within École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School.  As always, our thoughts remain with this individual and their family, we wish them a safe and speedy recovery.

In conversation with Alberta Health Services today, we have now been informed that official contact tracing will be delayed due to a high volume of cases throughout the province.  Due to this delay, Foothills School Division has made the following decisions, based upon previous experiences, while awaiting final confirmation from Public Health.

A classroom of students has received notice to begin self-isolation where they will be supported to learn at home.  For this group, learning will be accessible and flexible through a teacher provided online platform as students continue their education remotely during their isolation periods.  The teacher will remain in contact and will be sharing learning plans with students at that time.  Learning plans will consist of learning activities, resources, and information on assessment of student progress.

In-person learning continues for all students who have not received notice to self-isolate.

Out of respect to privacy and in accordance with AHS guidelines, we cannot disclose personal details.  However, we are able to share that we learned of this positive COVID-19 case at 10am on November 3, 2020 and received confirmation from Alberta Health Services at 11:30 am.  We understand that the individual was last in the school on October 28, 2020.
